Alicorn, a smart space operations solutions company leveraging AI and IoT technologies, has taken a significant step toward entering the Japanese market. On November 6, the company, led by CEO Minhee Cho, announced its selection as a support company for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s foreign company attraction initiative, aimed at discovering and promoting foreign businesses in Japan. This recognition is expected to accelerate Alicorn’s expansion in the country.
Under its brand name ‘Alicorn,’ the company delivers smart space solutions that enhance operational efficiency for diverse settings, including offices, fitness centers, warehouses, and hotels. In South Korea, Alicorn’s technology is already employed by prominent firms like GS Group, Shinhan Investment Corp., and SpoAny, boosting efficiency in facility management. Across Japan, Alicorn has begun extending its solutions to warehouse operators, sports facilities, and hotels—marking its presence in critical infrastructure sectors.
Alicorn’s recent selection by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government marks another important milestone. The program, which aims to attract foreign companies to Tokyo, offers participants a range of benefits, including financial support. Alicorn has also been a participant in the K-Startup Center Tokyo’s startup support program since May, backed by Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency. This program has offered Alicorn tangible support in areas such as corporate establishment, office space, translation services, and business development.
CEO Minhee Cho expressed optimism about this latest development, noting, “This selection is a testament to the global competitiveness of our technology.” Cho further emphasized that with the combined support of K-Startup Center Tokyo and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Alicorn plans to strengthen partnerships with local entities and broaden its reach in Japan.
Alicorn’s aspirations extend beyond Japan, targeting other Asian markets like Taiwan. The company’s expansion is bolstered by ongoing support from South Korean government initiatives, including the AI Voucher Project and the Korea Tourism Organization’s Tourism Global Challenge program. These initiatives have provided the foundation for Alicorn’s broader ambitions in the region, showcasing how government-backed programs can effectively propel startups into the global arena.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s backing, alongside the resources from K-Startup Center Tokyo, is expected to significantly fortify Alicorn’s footprint in Japan. The company’s innovative use of AI and IoT technologies aligns with Japan’s ambitions for constructing smart cities, potentially creating a collaborative technological model between the two nations. Alicorn’s expanding influence in Japan could serve as a key example of how targeted support and strategic partnerships pave the way for a successful international expansion.
