HotelQuickly, Bringing Last-Minute Booking to Asia-Pacific, Raised $4.5 Million in Series A Round

14

HotelQuickly, as its name implies, is a last-minute hotel booking mobile app. The Hong Kong-based startup just announced it has raised another $4.5 million in its Series A round led by Japanese online game giant Gree, added on top of the $1.13 million it net last September.

Sort of like HotelTonight of Asia, HotelQuickly offers discounts for travelers willing to wait until the day of their stay and reserve on their smartphones (Android and iOS). It lets users book a room for the same night up until 4am, compared to Hotelvp, a Chinese last-minute booking service acquired by retail giant JD early this year, which offers booking from 6pm on every night.

It is now on 12 regions/countries across Asia-Pacific. For such a culturally diverse geography, localization becomes crucial. To that end, the team has teams on the ground in each country that handled translations and local testing on the app.

Two of the startup’s founding members are former executives from Rocket Internet, which funds e-commerce startups that mimic proven business models. Perhaps last-minute booking is not the most innovative business model, but much of Internet’s value is about servicing customer needs. On that score, HotelQuickly has succeeded in bringing travelers in Asia cheap and quality hotels booked at the last minute.
