Baofeng, the Chinese video player developer and online video provider, launched today a virtual reality (VR) headset, named Magic Glasses (not official translation). The company claims the Magic Glasses, working with an accompanying mobile app, delivers a viewing experience that is comparable with IMAX.

What’s interesting is it is found that inside the plastic headset it is an Android device by Lenovo. The gadget is produced by a company based in Hunan Province of China. The company plans to develop more VR applications for video viewing and gameplay.

The Magic Glasses is priced as low as RMB99 (about US$16). It will open for pre-order on Sept 5th and be on sale at the end of this month.

The ten-year-old online video company is trying to diversify its businesses. In the past July Baofeng released a custom version of XGIMI steaming projector (loaded with Baofeng video service and other online services), and V plan, a program to help independent directors or small teams working on original video content, directing traffic to their movies on Baofeng sites or making investments into them.– For Baofeng, it means exclusive content that will differentiate it from other Chinese video sites.

Baofeng has been profitable for three consecutive years and filed for IPO on Shenzhen Growth Enterprise Board earlier this year.
