MSS has selected Korean startups that will collaborate with OpenAI
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister LEE Young, hereinafter referred to as MSS) organized the K-Startup and OpenAI Matching Day. The two-day event was held at the Swiss Grand Hotel Seoul on December 14-15. It was attended by 42 startups, executives from OpenAI, and A.I. experts.
An event was organized to strengthen Korea’s A.I. enterprise ecosystem through a partnership with OpenAI and Korean startups. The objective was to support the global expansion and technology development capabilities of promising AI-related startups. Following the preliminary event in Korea, the final startups to collaborate with OpenAI will be selected through the main event scheduled to be held in the U.S. during the first half of next year.
MSS conducted a two-week long open recruitment program starting from November 3 to November 17 to choose the top fourteen companies for collaboration with OpenAI. The recruitment opportunity was focused on two fields, namely “API Application” and “General Collaboration”. In total, 220 companies applied for the 14 openings, resulting in a high competition rate of 15.7:1.
On December 14, 42 out of the 220 startups that applied for collaboration and passed the written evaluation by OpenAI employees proceeded with the presentation for another round of evaluation. For the API application, nine companies were selected, and for general collaboration, five companies were chosen.
On December 15, the results of the 14 selected startups were announced. These selected startups were awarded a ticket to advance to the main round. Additionally, the tasks of the selected startups were presented.
MSS will offer exciting opportunities to fourteen selected startups. These startups will be given a chance to visit OpenAI’s headquarters in Silicon Valley in 2024 and meet with developers. Additionally, the Ministry plans to provide funding for collaborative commercialization for the selected finalists.
OpenAI will offer AI-related services, including prioritized API credits for generative A.I. models and 1:1 technical mentoring to the final collaborators.
LIM Jeong-wook, Deputy Minister of Startup and Venture Innovation, stated, “We are pleased that the event happened as planned thanks to OpenAI’s interest in Korean startups and the startups’ willingness to collaborate.”
He added, “MSS will continue to support the 14 selected startups for their collaboration with OpenAI to achieve global expansion and growth.”
