Tencent Expands Its O2O Territory, Again, Investing In Laundry This T

13
Unlike many laundry startups such as 24tidy,Ganxike (“dry cleaner”), Xiyigj (“laundry’s helper”),Ayibang (“maid’s help”), WeWash to name a few, Edaixi was born out of Rong Chain Laundry, a time-honored laundry brand founded in 1990. Rong Chain’s established offline laundry chain and its 4 million users definitely give Edaixi the upper hand in the O2O laundry competition.Over the past few years, a number of on-demand laundry services have sprouted up. Another such new service Edaixi (“E-washing”) has attracted investment from Tencent.

Users need simply dump clothes into the laundry bag provided by Edaixi, select pickup time and pay on Edaixi’s WeChat-based app, sit back and wait for clean clothes to be delivered at door in the next 72 hours. Edaixi charges 99 yuan per laundry bag instead of the conventional way of charging by piece. Aside from clothes, Edaixi also provides on-demand cleaning for air conditioners, furniture covers, leather goods and shoes.

Edaixi said it went with Tencent in part because Tencent knows the ropes of O2O commerce. 2014 is the O2O year for Tencent: prior to the investment in Edaixi, Tencent has taken 20% stake in Dianping, China’s Yelp, 15% in e-commerce JD and 19.9% in 58.com, China’s local listing giant.

Currently operating in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, Edaixi is planning to extend its presence all across China. It receives on average 1000 orders per day and aims for 10,000 orders/day by the end of the year. It plans to station 10,000 couriers for each neighborhood it covers to speed up pickup time.
